Thylacosmilus atrox is an extinct genus closely related to marsupials, and only superficially resembled other saber-toothed mammals due to convergent evolution. The “Sabre tooth Marsupial”  inhabited South America from the Late Miocene to Pliocene epochs.

Thylacosmilus atrox were members of the abundant Pleistocene megafauna, large mammals that lived during the Pleistocene epoch.
